Big Tree VFC - (Combatting Vehicle Fires)

The Big Tree Volunteer Fire Company conducted a series of training exercises to test our abilities to effectively combat vehicle fires. With modern advances in vehicle technology, these training evolutions focused on the skills required to safely deal with the new dangers of vehicle fires. Our training exercises involved two live burns. In one evolution, a large motor home was burned. In the second exercise, a full-size station wagon was burned. Firefighters practiced extinguishment techniques while paying attention to potentially dangerous items such as pressurized struts, fuel and propane tanks, and toxic smoke generated from the combustion of plastics.
Big Tree Firefighters Ken Page & John Makin Jr. advance on this fully involved vehicle fire.

With the main body of the fire knocked down, firefighters advance to complete extinguishment.
Firefighters carefully advance on this burning vehicle to complete extinguishment.
