Extrication Demonstration Performed at ImmaculataApril 27, 2005: Big Tree firefighters conducted an extrication drill on Wednesday for the students at Immaculata High School. The firefighters set up a simulated auto accident scene with patients entrapped in both cars requiring both rescue and medical services. Six volunteer students were dressed up as patients and participated in the real-time drill. Big Tree firefighters used their specialized equipment and skills to remove the entrapped patients. The annual drill is done just before the prom season to help demonstrate to the students what can happen as a result of a bad accident, and used to help deter drinking and driving. Mutual aid ambulances from Scranton and Armor joined in to help treat the patients. A question and answer session followed the drill to help the students better understand the dangers of driving, what to do if they see or are involved in an accident, and other facts about the volunteer fire service.
