Multiple Box Fire Levels Home

October 19,2005 :

Early October 19, 2005 firefighters from Blasdell, Big Tree, Newton Abbott, Woodlawn and Orchard Park FAST were alerted to a fire in the structure at 37 Arthur Ave in the Village of Blasdell.

First arriving units reported a working fire in the structure with exposure problems.

Minutes later, a Blasdell Engine arrived on scene and deployed several 2 1/2" hand lines and began to protect the exposure.

Police started to evacuate people from nearby houses in case the fire spread.

Moments later Big Tree Engine and Newton Abbott Quint 6 arrived on scene and also deployed 2 1/2" hand lines. Crews from both companies made an attack on the exposure "D" house. Fire had spread from the original fire building into the "B" side of the residence. Crews from Newton Abbott made an aggressive attack to contain the fire before it spread throughout the house.

Meanwhile crews from Woodlawn and Blasdell protected the exposure "B" house and knocked down the fire from the original fire building

Copious amounts of water and hose were used before the fire was extinguished and units were picking up.

The cause of fire is under investigation but initial reports were the homeowner left a candle burning which caught drapes on fire. The fire quickly spread due to the extensive renovation the house was undergoing.

Crews remained on location into the late morning performing overhaul.
