December 4, 2002:

Big Tree Volunteer Fire Company Elects 2003 Officers

On December 4th, 2003, the Big Tree firefighters elected their 2003 administrative and firematic officers at their annual election meeting. This year's election was relatively uneventful as all but two office position were uncontested. On the administrative side, Bob Brown will be stepping down as President to take some time away to peruse other interests. Replacing Bob will be exiting Chief Warren Ristine who has also served as past vice president before running for Chief in 2002. We are looking forward to an exciting and progressive year under Mr. Ristine‘s leadership.

Dan Bozek, who has previously served as a company Trustee, won election as the 2003 Vice president. Remaining at the position of Treasurer will be Norm Drabek. Rosemary Donahue will also be returning to serve as the company‘s Financial Secretary. Replacing Mike Dembski at Sgt. At Arms will be Jeff Hosie who has served the company superbly as Fire Prevention Captain. Mike Dembski and Dan Smith will support the company in the positions as Service Award Directors.

In one of the only two competitive election position, Bob Gawlak and Dave Patton won reelection as Company Trustees while Ed Hughes will step down as Vice President to fill the third opening. Last, but definitely not least, Carol Covert will return as Company Secretary.

Firematically, the major change for elected officers will be in the position of Chief and Assistant Chief. Warren Ristine will step down and Bob Stoberl will step up to assume the role of Fire Chief. Position of Chief is not new to Bob who previously served as an Assistant Chief of Big Tree from 1997-2002. With Bob’s many years of fire service experience, we look forward to an exciting and progressive year.

The spot of first assistant chief was left open and will be appointed by Chief Stoberl and President Ristine in the coming months. Past third assistant Chief Chris Zak will be assuming the role of Second Assistant Chief. Chief-elect Stoberl will be announcing his selection for 2003 Line Officers in the coming month.

All officers will assume their respective offices on January 1, 2003. Official swearing-in ceremonies will occur at the company installation banquet to be held on January 4, 2003.
