Monday October 29, 2001: This evening, the Big Tree Volunteer Fire Company conducted basic extrication training for our new recruits and for members of the Blasdell Volunteer Fire Company. Captain Ron Klimowicz and Rescue Captain Richard Stoberl provided instruction on the basics of motor vehicle extrication. Topics included stabilization of a vehicle on all four wheels, glass removal, initial patient access, de-energizing the vehicle, the use of hand tools and the use of hydraulic tools. Participants got hands-on training in roof removal, door removal and rolling the dashboard. A special thanks goes out to Lenny at Lake Erie Towing for helping us discard the remains of the vehicle. By the time our training was done, a flatbed truck was required to remove the remains. Good job everyone! |
