Another Crash on Route 20 Claims Another Life

May 23, 2003

An elderly female was fatally injured in a crash that occurred around 3:30 PM this afternoon. Five cars were involved in the crash on Route 20 at Buckingham Terrace. Two Mercy Flight helicopters were called to the scene to transport critical patients to the Erie County Medical Center. An additional two patients were transported to ECMC by ground ambulances.

Over the past several years, Route 20 has been the scene of numerous fatal crashes. Just last week the New York State Department of Transportation agreed to lower the speed limit to 45 miles per hour. Additionally, major road reconstruction plans call for the addition of a center turning lane. Exactly one month ago to the day two motorists will killed just a few miles down Route 20 in Lake View.

Firefighters from Scranton, Lake Shore, and Blasdell provided mutual-aid to Big Tree during today's response. Town of Hamburg Police are conducting an investigation into the cause of today's crash.
