Giving thanks for fire and police safety |

There recently was a fire, apparently originating in the refrigerator of a duplex that we own on Big Tree Road in the Town of Hamburg, inside an apartment inhabited by my mother.
I was on my way to pick her up whem i saw the vast number of fire trucks, emergency and police vehicles and fire and police personnel. Of course my first fear was that my mother was inside.
A firefighter emerged from the house and reassured me that my mother was not inside and was instead safe and uninjured. Totally relieved after being able to see her and talk with her changed my whole perspective of the situation.
I was then able to observe the actions of the local volunteer fire companies and the Town of Hamburg Police Department during this emergency situation. Traffic was managed very well along Big Tree Road as they routed vehicles carefully around the emergency vehicles and allowed traffic to flow safely by. The police officers I spoke with were pleasant and considerate, yet they remained focused on their duties.
The many volunteers from the Big Tree Fire Company had the situation under total control. I could tell they were well trained, organized amd experienced by the way they handled the situation as each firefighter performed their individual tasks to accomplish their common goal.
The firefighters who entered the house were respectful to my mother's property and the structure as there was no unneccesary damage done to her belongings or the structure itself. They focused on removing the fire source, clearing the smoke and controlling the situation effectively and safely. My mother was examined and evaluated by the medical team on site to rule out any effects of the fire or smoke.
It is very comforting knowing that our community has these well equipped resources and these trained and dedicated volunteers and police personnel.
One takes these services for granted until the effect you or the lives of your loved ones. I thatnk them all for their unselfish dedication and time that they give to this community.
