Side wall opening - Upper window section

Sometimes it may be necessary to open the side wall of the school bus. This can consist of simply removing the window glass, frame and dividing brace or may consist of a more robust technique involving removing a section of the side wall of the bus. The situation at hand will dictate how far to take this evolution. Typically, however, the height of the bus necessitates removal of the wall panel at least to the level of the seat. This way patients can be easily handed out to rescuers on the outside. It may also be beneficial to use a flatbed or pickup truck as a work platform outside the bus. Again, common tools such as a haligan bar, hydraulic cutter and Sawzall work well for this evolution.
A screwdriver may be all that is needed to remove the window frame and glass. Of course this requires access to the interior of the bus.
Once the interior screws have been removed, the window and frame easily can be lifted out of the opening.
Side window glass is laminated and can be broken out by a haligan bar
A standard glass saw can also be used to remove side laminated safety glass.
With the window glass removed, a pry-bar can be used on the inside of the bus to remove the window frame.
With the window glass removed, a halligan bar can be used to forcefully pull the window frame out of the wall opening.
After two adjacent windows have been cleared, the dividing pillar can be cut out with hydraulic shears or a Sawzall to widen the opening.
Once widened, the opening is large enough to pass backboarded patients through. However, the height of the opening may make this impractical.
