Side wall opening - Lower wall section
Opening the lower wall section of the bus requires three cuts. These are best performed with a Sawzall. Two ventricle cuts are made down to the level of the seat cushion. A third horizontal cut joins the two vertical cuts to allow for removal of the panel. Although a simple flap can be done, the remaining metal often acts as an obstacle to extrication activities. If desired, the wall can be cut down to the floor to provide for a larger and lower opening. The rescue situation at hand will dictate which technique to utilize. |

 | | | | | | | With both vertical cuts made, the side wall panel can be folded down. A final horizontal cut can be made to detach the flapped panel. |

 | | | | | | | | | With the opening made, it is evident that seat backs may cause an obstruction. However, the seat cushion provides an interior platform to work off of. |

 | | | | | | | Note that the wall cut is made at the level of the seat cushion. It is common to catch the seat cushion with the blade of the Sawzall when making this cut. |

 | | | | | | | Hydraulic shears work well for removal of the seat back. |

 | | | | | | | | | With the seat backs removed, patients can easily be handed out the opening. |
